Things to Consider While Installing CCTV System at Home

Things to consider while installing CCTV system at home

CCTV is the abbreviation for Closed Circuit Television. CCTV cameras are the advanced answer for your security needs. An ever increasing number of individuals are purchasing CCTV cameras these days to monitor their properties and homes while CCTV installation can be found in banks, medical clinics, universities, and various other public and private organizations. However, prior to installation, there are a few things to consider which are described as follows:

CCTV quantity

It is the need to determine the number of CCTV cameras that you want to install across your property. This depends on the area that you want to cover. The bigger the property, the higher number of CCTVs required. Not only the CCTVs, but the space that you want to cover will also determine the CCTV cable you require. This is probably one of the first and foremost steps to consider.

Placement of the cameras

Placement of the cameras is another aspect to bear in mind while the installation at home is determined. There are debates around the topic of installing visible cameras against the ones that are ultra-compact and are close to not being visible. Some say that having traditional sized cameras may warn the intruders who plan malice while others say that having traditional camera placed at prominent location around the house will put them off. It all jots down to personal preference and the areas to be installed. It is always recommended to take professional advice.

Placement of the DVR/NVR

DVR stands for digital video recorder and NVR stands for network video recorder. The role of both these devices is to record and store video. The difference being that a NVR stores footage on a network where IP cameras are used while a DVR records a video in a digital format and stores it in a hard disk. Hence, it can be said that a DVR is more towards traditional style of surveillance video while an NVR is more contemporary. Placing your DVR/NVR is extremely important because you don’t want to keep them in a place where it is predicable to find by an intruder.

Backup power supply

Though not all individuals prefer running their CCTVs all throughout the day and night, they rather schedule surveillance timely. However, there is a group of individuals who prefer having their CCTVs function 24 hours a day and in case of a direct power supply break down, there should always be a backup power to support your CCTV system. On the other hand, there have been instances where extended periods of power breakdowns have resulted in frequent thefts. To avoid all of this, it is always recommended to have a backup source of power.

Testing system

Although it is recommended to do a trial test after the installation, we suggest running a trial at every step of the installation. Any issues that may arise in the framework, can be best fixed if testing is implement at every stage of installation. In-process testing will aid in reducing the hassle of figuring out which component has malfunctioned.
